Intro to Sanskrit: Module I

We’re excited to announce the next round of our Intro to Sanskrit course, being taught by scholar-practitioner, Peter Monteparo.

Live calls will be held weekly on Fridays, with a discussion group to support each other in getting to know this magical language. By the end of the 12-week program, you will be familiarized with the Sanskrit alpha-syllabary and Devanāgarī script. You will learn the conventions of euphonic coalescence (sandhi), and the basics of Sanskrit grammar.

The course will also explore the spiritual aspects of the Sanskrit language with regards to Linguistic Mysticism - how the phonemes of Sanskrit correspond to and encapsulate broader patterns of reality.

By delving into the sacred Sanskrit language, one can access ancient yet atemporal wisdom and reach new vistas of universal understanding. By practicing Tantric meditation, one can obtain a more vibrant and fulfilling relationship with Reality. It is with these views that Prashant approaches teaching, endeavoring to enrich his students' spiritual practice.

This course is available to Sadhaka members only. In order to join the course, you will need to subscribe for the duration of the course. If you are already an active Sadhaka member, you need to request enrollment by submitting the application form below.

Enrollment into the course will not be permitted after the course has begun.

“Prashant is an excellent teacher and I looked forward to each session. I attended all but one session live. I always thought learning devanāgarī would be too hard, and I was thrilled to find out I could do it. I can’t wait to continue on!”

Peter Monteparo, also known as Prashant, is a scholar-practitioner of Nondual Śaiva Tantra with a decade of practice and seven years of formal education in South Asian religions.

Prashant holds a B.A. in Religion and Anthropology from the University of Florida, and an M.A. in Sanskrit and Yoga Studies from Naropa University. His Master's thesis centered on the concept of mantra-vīrya (the potentization of mantra) and Linguistic Mysticism (the idea that language can be a mystical medium for divine union) in classical Tantric sources.

He recently received a research grant from Muktabodha Indological Research Institute to support their digital library, working on the transcription, translation, and study of a new corpus of rare and endangered Sanskrit texts.

“I was hesitant to start learning Sanskrit because of Devanagari (and I did not even know about Sandhi;-)) but Prashants calm way of teaching and starting each lesson with mantras made everything look so much easier.”
