SPANDA: The Stanzas on Pulsation
Written in the Kashmir Valley over 1,100 years ago, the Spanda-kārikā — the Stanzas on Pulsation — is one of the most quietly extraordinary texts in the history of human thought.
Its central insight is both simple and profound: there is a living vibrancy at the heart of your experience, an innate pulsation from which the entire world of your awareness arises and into which it dissolves — and that pulsation is you, at your deepest level.
Over 26 weeks, we’ll move through the text two verses at a time, carefully letting each teaching land.
The Stanzas cover remarkable ground:
The nature of awareness in waking, dreaming, and deep sleep
Why mantras work and what they really are
How to find your essence-nature in the midst of everyday emotion such as rage, joy, wonder
What it means to be liberated while embodied
The difference between genuine realization and its near-counterfeits
Each verse comes with the author Kallaṭa's own commentary, translated directly from Sanskrit so you are receiving the tradition's own explanation of itself.
This course is for anyone who has ever sensed, even briefly, that awareness itself is somehow more fundamental than anything it contains. You don't need a background in Sanskrit or Indian philosophy. You need only genuine curiosity.
"One who constantly applies himself to the discernment of the principle of Pulsation quickly discovers his innate nature even in the waking state." — Spanda-kārikā, verse 21
This course is available to Tantra Illuminated Sadhaka Members only and will be taught in place of the usual Saturday Satsang. The course will run for 26 weeks covering two verses in each call. While we encourage students to stay for the duration of the course, it is possible to join at any given point so long as you catch up on the prior materials and recordings.
Members also have access to a vast library of signature courses, pre-recorded retreats, and meditations and mantra recitation practices.
